Three Peaks, One Day: A Hike That Changed My Perspective

Sometimes, all it takes is one day in the mountains to remind you what it means to truly live.

January 22, 2025 is a date I will always remember. I joined a hiking trip to Dalaguete, where we challenged ourselves to conquer three of Cebu’s most iconic peaks in a single day: Kandungaw Peak, Lugsangan Peak, and Osmeña Peak.

What made this adventure even more meaningful was that I joined the hike alone. While traveling solo can feel intimidating at first, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and join a hiking organization from Cebu City. I didn’t know most of the people there, but there was something exciting about sharing the trail with individuals who shared the same love for adventure and the outdoors.

The hike itself was both physically demanding and rewarding. Each peak offered a different experience, and every climb tested my endurance. There were moments when my legs felt heavy and the trail seemed endless, but every step forward brought me closer to views that made all the effort worthwhile.

Standing on top of Kandungaw Peak, I was greeted by breathtaking landscapes stretching far beyond what my eyes could fully capture. Lugsangan Peak offered a different kind of beauty; quiet, vast, and humbling. By the time we reached Osmeña Peak, exhaustion had already settled into my body, yet I felt more alive than I had in a long time.

What I remember most wasn’t the difficulty of the climb or even the stunning scenery. It was the feeling that came when I stood at the peaks and looked out into the distance. In those moments, surrounded by mountains and open skies, I realized something simple but powerful: life is meant to be lived to the fullest.

The mountains have a way of putting things into perspective. The worries that often feel overwhelming suddenly seem smaller. The pressure of daily life becomes quieter. And for a brief moment, all that matters is being present and appreciating the fact that you are here.

That experience left me with a profound belief that no matter what challenges life brings, I should continue moving forward and continue living fully. Just like a difficult trail, life may not always be easy, but every step has meaning. Every struggle leads to growth. Every climb offers a new view.

This hike was more than an outdoor adventure. It became a reminder that there is still so much to see, experience, and appreciate in the world. As I made my way back down the mountain, tired but fulfilled, I carried with me not just memories of three beautiful peaks, but a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude for life itself.

And perhaps that’s the greatest gift the mountains can give us not just spectacular views, but a clearer vision of how we want to live our lives.
