On January 22, 2025, we went on a hike and overnight camping experience at Mount Manunggal in Balamban, Cebu. Unlike my first mountain experience, this time I wasn’t alone I was with my man.
It was a weekday, and when we arrived, the place was almost empty. There were no other campers around, just us and the quiet mountain. It felt peaceful, but at the same time, a little surreal knowing we had the whole place almost to ourselves.
Originally, our goal was to reach the campsite before sunset. But unfortunately, the van we rode had problems along the way, which delayed our arrival. We reached the mountain around 7 PM already, when darkness had taken over instead of the sunset view we were hoping for.
Still, even with the delay, everything somehow worked out.
The weather was on our side at first it didn’t rain immediately when we arrived. We quickly set up our tent before the rain started falling. After everything was settled, we finally had dinner. We actually ordered Jollibee ahead of time before going up, and eating it inside the campsite made it even more memorable. Simple food, but it felt special in that moment.
We went to sleep late that night, listening to the wind and the quiet sounds of the mountain outside our tent. It was cold and windy, the kind of cold that makes you pull your blanket closer and appreciate the warmth beside you.
By morning, the entire place was covered in thick fog. Everything looked soft, quiet, and almost dreamlike. Even with the cold, we enjoyed walking around the campsite together. There was something calming about being surrounded by mist and nature with no one else around.
We discovered different kinds of plants and flowers around the area, and the whole landscape was well maintained. There was also a viewpoint where we could see a full 360-degree view of the mountains. The scenery was truly magical—like being inside a painting.
One of the most unforgettable moments was when the sun slowly tried to break through the fog, and a rainbow appeared. It was brief but beautiful, like nature giving us a small reward for staying through the cold night.
There was also an unexpected moment during the night when heavy rain came with strong winds. For a moment, I thought our tent might not hold up and that we would get wet inside. But thankfully, the tent was strong enough to withstand it. It felt comforting knowing we were safe inside, despite the storm outside. In that moment, I just felt grateful and at peace.
Looking back, the whole experience felt very special. Cold, windy, and a bit challenging—but also warm in its own way because of the company and the memories we created.
In fact, my man and I both agreed that it was the best date we’ve had so far.
If I had to describe the whole experience in one sentence, it would be this:
Mountains don’t just show you views, they also show you how deeply you can connect with someone.
